PROGRAMME PROFILE
Beijing, China, "The Middle Kingdom ", closed to Western influences until the late nineteenth century, is today a giant jostling for a position among the great countries of the world. China is an amazing country for its sheer size, its demographics, its ancient culture. It is in many ways exotic and full of surprises that baffle and amaze the most seasoned
traveler. Its musical tradition is not well known but this does not mean it is inexistent; it is in fact, like everything else in China, extraordinary. That is why Music Contact International-music & friends present this Choral Festival programme in Beijing with great enthusiasm to the large number of choirs that have taken part in our European festivals.
Beyond the choral activity that takes place during the festival, it would be unthinkable to travel to China without the benefit of seeing some of the universal treasures it contains, such as the Terracotta Warriors in Xi'an, the natural beauty of Guilin, the Zushou channels or the "Manhattan of Asia" in Shanghai. This festival gives choirs the chance to sing alongside their Chinese equals and get to know this remarkable country, altogether an extraordinary experience.
- The following highlights are part of this unique choral event:
Workshop – an introduction to choral music in China.
Friendship concert with a choir from Beijing.
Concert in the Concert Hall of the Forbidden City.
